Introducing…. Ruby’s our new Dalston Basement Bar!

We’re super excited to announce the opening of Ruby’s, our new Dalston basement bar. Set in the basement of Ruby House, underneath the cinema sign at 76 Stoke Newington Road the bar will focus on quality drinks in a decadent, intimate setting. We’ll be bringing something different to the area than the numerous party venues, namely somewhere to sit down and have a good old fashioned chat. Don’t be put off by the slightly seedy red-lighted entrance, that helps provide a nice contrast to the setting once inside!

The bar evokes a cosy intimate atmosphere and the music will be at a level where you don’t have to raise your voice to have conversation. Set in what was the kitchen of Ruby House 3, a former Chinese takeaway, the decor is a mixture of glazed brick, textured walls, wooden flooring plus a mish mash selection of tables, chairs and fittings. Luckily once stripping back we didn’t have to do too much though we did insert an original bar from a Mayfair pub and have updated the toilets (of course)! While we’ve been waiting for the licensing formalities to be completed the building has been busy as a photographic/filming location hosting shoots for the likes of Adele, Rihanna and the late Amy Winehouse.

We’ve had a special cocktail menu designed which compliments the character of the bar and each one is presented differently with the Blackberry Mojito’s being served in original 1940s Manchester milk bottles and the Passionfruit Bison Vodka Juleps coming in tin cups. We’ll be rotating our cocktail menu every month and each one will be carefully chosen for taste and presentation.

While we’re going to do a selection of cocktails really well we’ll not expressly be a cocktail bar. We’ve also cherry picked a quality selection of wine, premium spirits and beers so that for the casual drinker it will be a nice alternative to the traditional boozer. We’ve got loads of locally sourced refreshments from the likes of Redchurch Brewery and Sipsmith as well as a great selection from across the globe. Our hours mean we finish relatively early for the area (11pm on a weeknight and midnight on a weekend) so it will be a place to come for a good quality drink before heading off to dance the night away elsewhere.

In regards to bookings please note that we can only take bookings up until 8pm and for a maximum of 8 people.

ghd “Before Midnight”

Here’s a great picture shot by Tim Bret-Day for the ghd “Before Midnight” campaign. Set at Ruby House to themes of glamour, decadence and the fairytale sprinkled with a selection of exuberant hairstyles Tim’s shot encapsulates the Cinderella brief perfectly. Following that is a short promo of the shoot prepared by the boys at Love Hate Productions.

DIESEL PRESENTS ‘BRAVE NATIVES DIESEL ISLAND’ LAUNCH @ MC MOTORS

Earlier on in the year we hosted a product launch for denim giants Diesel at MC Motors. The event featured a live catwalk show with models sporting the brand’s autumn/winter collections. The event was a huge success and with the day’s proceedings drawing to a close guests then headed through into the basement of Ruby House to cap off the day’s event. Check out these great images of the set up designed and produced by the team at Spice Lumb.

Barbara and Mark’s MC Motors Wedding

Here’s some fantastic images of the recent wedding of Barbara and Mark at MC Motors. After getting married at St. Mary Moorfields Church in Bishopsgate the happy couple arrived down our alleyway via pink taxi. There was a vintage 1950s feel to proceedings with Barbara in her beautiful Candy Anthony prom style dress and the bridesmaids standing out from the crowd in sassy yellow polka dotted numbers.

With the chemistry of the Irish-Aussie crowd bubbling nicely the scene was set for a good ol’ knees up with music provided courtesy of rockabilly outfit The Hightown Crows and MC Motors regulars The Wedding Smashers. The newly-weds then had their profile shots taken next door in Ruby House while the underground bar played host to those late night owls still standing at the end.

We’d like to thank both Barbara and Mark for allowing us to use their fantastic images and we’re delighted to have met you both and that the day went so well. Also many thanks to Nick Tucker, the photographer, for producing such images and again for allowing us to share them. Check out his site for more pictures and if anyone’s looking for a wedding photographer he definitely gets our recommendation!

The wedding (and a very complimentary feature – thanks!) was also featured on cult wedding blog Rock n Roll Bride which also provides plenty more images to delve through!

House of Hackney Pop-up Shop

Over the next few days we’re pleased to be hosting a pop-up shop for the launch of new luxury interior company House of Hackney at our Stoke Newington Road location. Lily Vanilli will also be bringing her expertise to the event with her 180 cake, ice cream and high tea concoction. The shop is open this Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday between 10am-7pm so feel free to pop along to 76 Stoke Newington Road, N16 7XB. You won’t be able to miss our old illuminated cinema sign outside!

House of Hackney are unveiling collections with a strong local theme being named after cultural landmarks such as “Hackney Empire” and “Dalston Rose”. Their website states “Conceived as the antithesis of disposable identikit furnishings and white wall fatigue the home furnishings, wallpaper and textiles label is characterized by prints and products that are steeped in tradition but are bold and non-conformist. Described as ‘Colefax and Fowler on acid’ the House of Hackney label overhauls the concept of traditional home wares and brings them bang up to date with their playful and irreverent prints.”

Cake specialist Lily Vanilli is also taking over the basement with her 180 members club (though anyone can buy on the day) and is rustling up tantalising delights such as Mini Apple Champagne Donuts and Absinthe and Mint Chocolate Chip ice-cream. These will be complimented by live acts including Marawa the Incredible and her Fruit Salad of Death Act and a Live Fortune Cookie Teller. Tickets are £10 and include cake tasting performances and tea.
