On September 15, we were happy to host the 2016 Darc Night Awards at our MC Motors location. It was a prestigious architecture awards ceremony that contained an array of extravagant light installations from collaborations with manufacturing partners and designers. The ceremony was quite unique, presented in the style of an art gallery opening, with the option for street food and drinks, giving off a very warm and welcoming appeal. It was a great opportunity to see our location transformed to fit such stunning installations for some very talented artists! Checkout some footage from the event below, and don’t forget to go over to the Darc Night page to find out who won each category! http://darcawards.com/architectural/darc-night/

Tradicional presents The After Supper Club at MC Motors
Tequila brand Tradicional are taking over MC Motors in conjunction with The Art of Dining and Background Bars to host The After Supper Club, treatment featuring an adventurous 5 course Mexican inspired menu and of course plenty of tequila!
The After Supper Club is not about food as art, but food and drink as the route to great times with friends. The menu promises to tantalise and intrigue with 5 courses of unusual and adventurous Mexican inspired fare. Guests should expect share and tear Yucatan grilled fish tacos, be surprised when a chili is not all it seems, and see the classic Mexican drink Horchata turned on its head to make an unusual dessert. As with all the Art of Dining past experiences, the full menu is a closely guarded secret and will not be disclosed until the event itself, keeping guests guessing.
They have also partnered with Background Bars to bring you an exciting Tradicional Tasting Flight consisting of 4 different Tradicional serves and a sample of the After Supper Club menu all in the same beautiful surroundings of MC Motors.
The Art of Dining comprises of a chef (Ellen Parr) and an artist & set designer (Alice Hodge). Parr spent her formative years working at Moro and Rochelle’s Canteen before traveling around South East Asia researching cooking methods, techniques and flavors. Hodge who trained as an artist and teacher currently works with theatre companies designing sets and making props, and creating distinctive room and table designs for weddings and parties.
The restaurant is spread over 7 dates 4th, 5th 6th and 10th 11th 12th 13th of October and tickets are priced at £45 for the Supper Club and £15 for the tasting flight menu. To purchase and more info head over to the Tradicional website.
DIESEL PRESENTS ‘BRAVE NATIVES DIESEL ISLAND’ LAUNCH @ MC MOTORS
Earlier on in the year we hosted a product launch for denim giants Diesel at MC Motors. The event featured a live catwalk show with models sporting the brand’s autumn/winter collections. The event was a huge success and with the day’s proceedings drawing to a close guests then headed through into the basement of Ruby House to cap off the day’s event. Check out these great images of the set up designed and produced by the team at Spice Lumb.
Land of Kings
Havana Club have taken over the warehouse giving it a Cuban style makeover with Giles and the guys at Soulshakers setting up a Havana themed bar. Rare films, drugs secret story telling and domino boards are also strategically placed throughout the venue which has been curated by Vince Vella.
Festival goers will all have to travel through at some point to collect their wristbands and a stage has been set up to host Brass Roots and the Havana Club Collective amongst others. The #MEATEASY has left its temporary home in New Cross and is going back to its roots setting up its refurbished meatwagon in our car park. Our neighbours at Print Club are also getting involved bringing their screen printing expertise to the event.
Wristbands can be bought on the door and allow entry into a number of local institutions such as The Nest, The Alibi, The Arcola Theatre and Rio Cinema. The programme also incorporates The East End Film Festival and 2ManyDJs headline the extensive music programme which you can see in full here.

House of Hackney Pop-up Shop
Over the next few days we’re pleased to be hosting a pop-up shop for the launch of new luxury interior company House of Hackney at our Stoke Newington Road location. Lily Vanilli will also be bringing her expertise to the event with her 180 cake, ice cream and high tea concoction. The shop is open this Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday between 10am-7pm so feel free to pop along to 76 Stoke Newington Road, N16 7XB. You won’t be able to miss our old illuminated cinema sign outside!
House of Hackney are unveiling collections with a strong local theme being named after cultural landmarks such as “Hackney Empire” and “Dalston Rose”. Their website states “Conceived as the antithesis of disposable identikit furnishings and white wall fatigue the home furnishings, wallpaper and textiles label is characterized by prints and products that are steeped in tradition but are bold and non-conformist. Described as ‘Colefax and Fowler on acid’ the House of Hackney label overhauls the concept of traditional home wares and brings them bang up to date with their playful and irreverent prints.”
Cake specialist Lily Vanilli is also taking over the basement with her 180 members club (though anyone can buy on the day) and is rustling up tantalising delights such as Mini Apple Champagne Donuts and Absinthe and Mint Chocolate Chip ice-cream. These will be complimented by live acts including Marawa the Incredible and her Fruit Salad of Death Act and a Live Fortune Cookie Teller. Tickets are £10 and include cake tasting performances and tea.

Restraint by Fleet Ilya
Fleet Ilya recently took over our brand new Dalston location for the weekend to host a pop-up shop featuring examples of next years collection. The Hackney based boutique leather brand had gone into collaboration with world renown photographer Rankin fusing his iconic photography with their fetishistic style exemplified through the exhibition “Restraint by Fleet Ilya”. Prints and projections of model Sophie Willing and Jethro Cave wearing strategically placed Fleet Ilya products were on display, prostate tactfully woven into the natural character of our five storey Stoke Newington Road property.
Also on display was a 10ft leather horse made out of dozens of intricately cut pieces of leather which had been jig-sawed together and had arrived via a stint at Dover Street Market. The friday night saw the launch with a bar and DJ set up in our basement whilst a violinist and animal-faced operatic dancer serenaded guests upstairs. The top floor was reserved as an interactive role-play experience for certain attendees as they were summoned by a dominatrix onto a gothic bed in a balloon-filled room for their “special treat”. The less said of that the better.
The shop was open for the rest of the weekend giving a chance for Susie at Style Bubble to come down and write a very complimentary review while the sunday saw the return of the scantily-clad operatic dancer in our shop window enticing curious passers-by as well as somewhat bemused neighbouring cabbies!
It was also the first time we had managed to put our new cinematic front sign to use and we were delighted to see it in all its glory featured on the Vogue Italia website!
Many thanks to Tobias Radcliffe for the use of these great images.
G-Star RAW Conference
We recently hosted the sales conference for the managers and behind the scenes team at G-Star RAW. Employees were flown in from all over Europe for the two day exhibition at MC Motors where the warehouse was split into the four main themes with each one decorated to compliment their extensive shoe collection. Me, Him and Her were on hand to stamp G-Star’s mark on it by decking the main room out with 12ft ceiling banners and setting up a rather cool cotton backdrop to project the “business talk” onto.
Multimedia demonstrations were also integrated into each area with background music and themed films helping to set the mood further. There was even a gentlemen’s rest and recovery room upstairs complete with classic Chesterfields, Scaletrix and themed magazines (though the cigars had to remain unlit for health and safety reasons!).
As the pictures show the industrial setting complimented G-Star’s brand identity and their creative team did a great job in placing their abstract ideas onto a concrete platform.
Many thanks to Ian at Me, Him and Her (not bad pics for a non-professional!) and Matthew and Carly and the team at G-Star for letting us use their images!
